Adding a Home Printer to Your Trinity MacBook

Modified on Mon, 23 Aug, 2021 at 12:54 PM

If you have a printer at home, you might want to set it up with your Trinity MacBook so that you can print to it. Here's how to do that.

  1. Open Self Service, go to the Printer Drivers tab, and run the "Enable Home Printers (Gutenprint)" policy. There may be a version number after the word Gutenprint.

  2. Make sure you are connected to your home wi-fi network. The remaining steps in this guide will need to be completed while you are at home.

  3. Open System Preferences. You can find System Preferences by clicking on the Apple logo on the top left, then choosing "System Preferences".

  4. Select "Printers & Scanners".

Note that the above image shows System Preferences in macOS 10.15 Catalina. The Printers & Scanners option may be in a different location in other versions of macOS.

  5. Click on the + icon on the bottom left. This will open up a list of available printers. If you aren't able to click the + icon, try running the "Enable Home Printers" policy again from Self Service.
  6. Select the printer that you want to add.
  7. Under the Use section, the Gutenprint driver for your printer should be automatically selected. If it isn't, try manually selecting it, or using Generic PostScript Printer instead.

  8. Click Add, and the printer should be added.
