Becoming Paperless - Using Less Paper and More Technology

Modified on Tue, 21 Jul, 2020 at 2:32 PM

This guide will provide you with various tips and tricks on how to use less paper in the classroom by substituting paper tasks with new technologies.

Why go paperless?

  • Saves You Time: The process of printing, making copies, and distributing takes time. Digital materials can be easily reused and stored to the cloud.
  • Save the Environment: Save paper, ink, and the cost of maintenance of printers.
  • Students are More Engaged: Students are used to reading digitally, not on paper.
  • Prepare Students for College: Students will primarily be working with electronic resources and documents in college and beyond.
  • Resources Shared Instantly: Resources can be instantly shared with students and collected. Students cannot lose the documents or claim they never received them.
  • Students Receive Immediate Feedback: Work is handed back instantly with grades and comments.

Apps that Assist in Going Paperless

  • Google Classroom lets you share assignments and resources with your class.
  • Interactive Video Assessments such as EdPuzzle and PlayPosit let you embed questions into videos.
  • Google Forms lets you quiz and poll your students.
  • Google Docs lets you comment, suggest, and edit documents shared with you.
  • Adobe Acrobat lets you edit PDF documents for reuse.

For more information on each of these apps, along with other apps that could be useful, see the attached in-depth PDF.
