Breakout Rooms allow you to split your RingCentral meeting into up to 50 different separate sessions. They are great for individual conferencing with students, allowing students to work in pairs or small groups, and allowing independent student work before resuming whole class instruction.
If the RingCentral meeting is being recorded, only the main room will be recorded. None of the breakout rooms will be recorded.
Creating a Breakout Room
To create a breakout room, host a meeting and then select "Breakout Rooms" at the bottom of your screen.
At the pop-up box that appears, select the number of rooms you would like to create and how you want to assign your participants into each room. Click "Create" to begin assigning.Once the rooms have been assigned, you can start the rooms. All participants will be moved to their respective rooms after confirming the prompt to join. You (the host) will be left in the main meeting area until you manually join one of the rooms.
Assigning Participants to a Breakout Room
Participants can be automatically placed into breakout rooms, or you can choose to manually place them in specific rooms. If you are manually placing students, click "Assign" next to the room you want to place students in, then click the checkboxes next to the names of the students you want to place in the room. Continue to do this for each room until all students have been assigned.
Managing a Breakout Room
You can switch between rooms by selecting "Join" and leave a room and return to the main meeting area by selecting "Leave". If a participant has not joined the room yet, it will be noted by Not Joined next to their name.
Select "Close All Rooms" if you want to stop all rooms and return participants to the main meeting area within 60 seconds. Select "Broadcast a Message to All" to send a message to all students in all breakout rooms, such as a five minute warning to wrap up.
Asking for Help in a Breakout Room
Participants in breakout rooms can request that the meeting host join their room by clicking "Ask for Help."
This will send a notification to you, prompting you to join the room. Click "Join Breakout Room" to leave the room you are currently in and assist the student.
