How to Use Adobe Scan

Modified on Tue, 08 Sep 2020 at 02:20 PM

Adobe Scan is an iOS and Android app that lets you scan paper documents with your phone and turn them into digital documents, which can then be emailed or sent to Google Drive/Classroom.

Downloading Adobe Scan

You can download Adobe Scan for free on the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. Adobe Scan is pre-installed on all Trinity iPads, located in the Adobe folder.

Signing Into Adobe Scan

When opening Adobe Scan for the first time, you'll be asked to sign in. You'll need to tap on "Sign in or sign up" on the bottom of the screen, below "Already have an Adobe ID?". The Sign In with Google button will NOT work.

From there, enter your Trinity Google email address. You'll then need to enter your email address again, along with your password. After that, you'll be signed in.

Using Adobe Scan

Taking Photos of a Document

In the main menu, there are two icons on the bottom right. Tap the camera icon to activate the camera and take a photo of your document. You can also tap the photo icon to choose a photo of a document you've already taken.

When taking a photo of your document, make sure that the entire page is in the photo, and that the document is as straight and centered as possible. Also make sure that the lighting around the document is good. Once Adobe Scan detects the document and the camera is in focus, a photo of the document will automatically be taken.

Adobe Scan will automatically put dots around the corners of the document. These dots will allow the document to be resized properly. You can drag these dots around if they aren't placed where they should be. Tap Continue to move on to the next page of the document to scan.

Once you have scanned all of the document's pages, tap the icon on the bottom right.

From here, you can edit or reorder pages of your document if necessary. Once you're finished, tap "Save PDF" on the top right.

Sharing a Document (using AirDrop)

Once you've scanned a document, if you're using the iOS version of Adobe Scan, you can tap the Share button, then tap Share a Copy, then tap AirDrop.

Choose your computer to AirDrop the PDF to it. If you don't see your computer listed on the device with Adobe Scan, open Finder on your computer, click on AirDrop, and make sure that  "Allow me to be discovered by" is set to Everyone.

On your computer, you should see a pop-up asking to accept or decline an AirDropped file.

Accept it, and the file will be downloaded to your computer. It will be located in the Downloads folder. From there, you can email the file, or upload the file to Google Drive or Google Classroom.

Sharing a Document (using Google Drive)

If you're using the Android version of Adobe Scan, or don't want to use AirDrop, you can instead share the document directly to your Google Drive. Tap the Share button, then tap Share a Copy, then tap Google Drive. Save the document to the account and folder you want.
