You can make recordings of a specific browser tab, any app you have open, or your entire desktop screen You can select to record with the camera only, the screen only, or with the screen and camera together. Loom Pro is free for educators and allows for unlimited storage, unlimited recording duration, and there is no expiry of your videos.

Opening Loom

The Loom Chrome extension is automatically added to faculty MacBook Airs. To access it, open Chrome, then click on the Loom icon on the top right of Chrome. Make sure you are signed into Chrome with your Trinity Google account.

Recording a Video

Loom allows you to record Screen and Camera, which puts a bubble with your video in the bottom corner of the screen as it records full screen.

Loom also allows you to record Screen Only, which only records your screen, or to record using the Cam (Camera) Only, which will not show your screen, just your camera.

Selecting a Monitor

Loom allows you to choose which screen you would like to share if you have more than one monitor plugged into your computer. Select “Change Monitor” and then which screen you would like to display.

Camera and Microphone Settings

Loom allows you to select a specific microphone and camera to record with. Check to make sure both your camera and microphone are working before you begin recording. By default, Loom will detect your MacBook’s microphone and FaceTime HD Camera and will select the best resolution for your device and connection. You can also flip the camera if necessary.

Starting the Recording

To begin recording, make sure that your desktop is free of unwanted material, emails, or sensitive information. Click on the red "Start Recording" button to start recording. If you have selected the Screen Only or Screen and Cam option, Loom will begin to record your entire screen or you may select part of the screen to record.

Adding a Password

The “Add Password” option allows you to add a password to your video to protect it further.

Settings and Editing

The “Settings” option lets you enable comments, comment notification, emoji reactions, and allows the viewer to download the video. Trim allows you to edit your video before sharing.
