It's important to know which model of MacBook Air you have, as the steps to perform an SMC Reset are different depending on the model. Which Model MacBook Air Do I Have?
A1466 MacBook Airs (received 2018-2019)
- Turn off your MacBook Air. If the computer is not shutting down on its own, hold the power button down for 5 seconds until it fully turns off.
- Plug the computer into a charger.
- Hold Control + Option + Shift + Power at the same time for 10 seconds. Look at the image below to see where these keys are on the keyboard.
- Turn the computer back on by pressing the power button normally.
A2179 MacBook Airs (received 2020)
- Turn off your MacBook Air. If the computer is not shutting down on its own, hold the power button down for 5 seconds until it fully turns off.
- Plug the computer into a charger.
- Hold Left Control + Left Option + Right Shift at the same time for 7 seconds. Then keep holding these keys and also hold the Power button for 7 more seconds. Look at the image below to see where these keys are on the keyboard.
- Turn the computer back on by pressing the power button normally.
A2337 MacBook Airs (received 2021)
